Interactive Lecture: Who Is Like You, Am Yisrael? 

A Visual History and Living Gallery Experience of the Jewish People

Session Length: 60-80 Minutes

Our first session will take us through a journey of Jewish visual culture spanning thousands of years, exploring what visual culture can teach us about our identity, and how our people related to it as we evolved and progressed through time. The first component of this session will be a brief 15-20 minute informal lecture on the art history of the Jewish people, how it developed, and the hidden “secrets” that arts can teach us about how Jews of every generation lived and saw the world. The second component of this session would be an interactive “living gallery” of a selection of Jewish artworks spanning years and countries of origin. The experience would include education on the works, questions attached to each piece which is presented, and an interactive “trivia” option, which can be accessed by scanning the code alongside each work. After giving our cohort roughly twenty to twenty five minutes to explore the works, we will commence our final component of the session, a roughly twenty minute dialogue in seminar format of what the most informative and thought provoking works were to them, and how they relate it to their own Jewish identity, as well as personal and familial experience. This event will not only offer an educational and historical component which will help frame the rest of our time together, but emphasizes the communal open-dialogue and creative free-thinking in terms of Jewish expression.
