Collage Workshop: From Chaos to Expression

Collage Workshop: From Chaos to Expression

Session Length: 90-120 Minutes

This interactive session engages the group in a dynamic mixed-media collage workshop together - whereby every participant will have their own hand-made art piece to take home after the retreat. Collage, which one can regard as the “alchemical” medium of the art world, serves a profound primary purpose: To take the informational and visual chaos of the world, and organize it into expression and meaning. Our participants will have a variety of visual and textual material to select from, which will be curated to reflect a combination of the identity and culture of the cohort, and the world. Through making a collage, community members will be able to freely and creatively express themselves and their identity, process the complicated situation global Jewry is currently in, and come closer as a community through active creation! The session will be framed as a brief introduction to the medium of collage as an art form, and an explanation of technique and the tools laid out before the participants, followed up by explicitly jumping into the art-making process! We will use the final ten or so minutes of the workshop for each participant to share their work, as well as some of their thoughts as to how their piece relates to their personal identity, be it Jewish, Ukrainian, American, or otherwise, on both a philosophical and personal level.

Session Requirements: Materials needed for collage workshop: Watercolor Paper, Glue, Brushes, Magazines/Visual Content
